NJCAA Women's Basketball Players of the Week: Dec. 31 - Jan. 6
January 8, 2013COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Shicole Watts (Garden City CC, Kan.) and Revonnia Howard (Rock Valley College, Ill.) have been named NJCAA women’s basketball players of the week for games Dec. 31 – Jan. 6.
Two double-doubles from Watts led to the No. 11 Broncbusters claiming an overtime victory and narrowly falling to one of the nation’s top teams last week. Watts spurred Garden City on to an 86-84 overtime win over Butler CC (Kan.) with 23 points and 15 rebounds. The freshman came back with 19 points, 12 rebounds and five steals against No. 2 Hutchinson CC (Kan.) but the Broncbusters fell short, losing 61-46.
DIVISION II PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The Golden Eagles continued to be one of the top championship contenders in Division III, thanks in part to the efforts of Howard. In a 77-62 win over Malcolm X College (Ill.), the sophomore was 7-for-11 from the field for 18 points and hauled down nine rebounds. Howard’s encore included 20 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks in Rock Valley’s 99-82 win over Kankakee CC (Ill.).
