Lady Texans too much for Chandler-Gilbert
January 4, 2013MESA, Ariz. – The South Plains College Lady Texans raced out to a 14-point halftime lead and that proved too much for the Lady Coyotes of Chandler-Gilbert College to overcome as South Plains improved their record to 12-2 with a 70-60 victory Thursday evening. Sophomore Shea Myatt led the Lady Texans with 14-points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field. Tasheena Moore chipped in with 13 and Lindsey Lee came off the bench to score 11. Trailing 10-9 early in the game, South Plains used an 11-0 run to take control of the contest and never trailed again.Chandler tried to make a game of it, pulling to within six with two-minutes remaining, but a put back by Moore from a missed shot by Lee put the Lady Texans back up by eight and Chandler was not able to pose a serious threat again. The Lady Texans will travel to Tucson Friday, where they will wrap up a four-game road trip with Pima Community College. South Plains defeated the Lady Aztecs 76-57 on Nov. 2.Conference play will begin for South Plains on Thursday, January 10 when the Texans and Lady Texans host Midland College in a game sponsored by Mike Mamantov and Ameriprise Financial. A VIP dinner will be available for SPC faculty and staff. Game time is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. for the women and 7:45 p.m. for the men. On Saturday, Jan. 12, South Plains will host Howard College at 1 & 3 p.m. |
