12 NJCAA Baseball Players Recognized by Canadian Baseball Network
January 3, 2013From Bob Elliott, Canadian Baseball Network Tyler Hollick, American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) NJCAA Division II Player of the Year, has been named to the 2012 Canadian Baseball Network all-Canadian college team. The Chandler-Gilbert CC (Ariz.) outfielder was joined on the First Team by a pair of Lamar CC (Colo.) Runnin’ Lopes: outfielder Jackson Gooch and shortstop Pier-Olivier Dostaler. Lefty Keegan Hucal of Seward County CC (Kan.) shared honours as the left-handed starter on 13th annual CBN All-Canadian team which honours the best of the 745 Canadians playing south of the border. The Stony Brook Sea Wolves, Cinderella story of the NCAA DI College World Series were not ignored by the 58 voters as clean-up hitting second baseman Maxx Tissenbaum earned Player of the Year honours finishing one first-place vote ahead of Arkansas-Little Rock’s Sean Bignall and three up on Gooch. The other three Canadian Sea Wolves recognized were: outfielder Tanner Nivins and shortstop Cole Peragine were named to the CBN Second Team, while reliever Jasvir Rakkar picked up Third Team honours. Trevor Edwards of North Carolina-Greensboro and Tissenbaum were the only repeat First Teamers. Sharing southpaw honours with Hucal was David Otterman of the University of British Columbia, while LSU-Shreveport’s Jared Mortensen was the top right-hander and Canisius closer Jon Fitzsimmons the best reliever. Maine’s Tyler Patzalek and Siena’s Larry Balkwill shared catching honours. The infield consists of LSU-Shreveport first baseman Greg Friesen, third baseman Andrew Firth from UBC, Tissenbaum and Dostaler. In the outfield were Hollick, Bignall and Gooch. Edwards was voted the DH.
