2012 NJCAA Football All-America Teams Announced
 December 12, 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The NJCAA has released its All-America selections for the 2012 football season. The 75 student-athletes awarded with this year’s honors were first nominated by their respective conference and then selected by the NJCAA football committee.

Iowa Western Community College quarterback Jake Waters and wide receiver Deon Long highlight the first-team offensive selections. The duo helped guide the Reivers to the 2012 NJCAA Football Championship in just the program’s fourth year of existence. Waters, a sophomore from Council Bluffs, Iowa, set a new NJCAA single-season record for completion percentage (73.3%) as he connected on 244-of-333 pass attempts. He also led the nation in touchdown passes (39) and passing yards (3.501). Long, a sophomore from Washington, D.C., was Waters’ favorite target, which helped him set new NJCAA single-season records for receptions (100) and touchdown receptions (25) and was just 14 yards shy of setting a new record for receiving yards in a season, finishing with 1,626.

Four conference MVP’s headline the first-team defensive All-Americans. Linebackers Shawn Johnson of Northland Community & Technical College (Minn.), Charles Woods of Kilgore College (Texas) and Martrell Spaight of Coffeyville Community College (Kan.), along with Snow College (Utah) defensive lineman Ofa Hautau, all garnered MVP awards from their respective leagues. The linebacker trio all ranked in the top five nationally in total tackles.
