VU finishes off Lewis & Clark early for 8th win of season
 November 29, 2012

Results never in doubt, thanks to outstanding defense

GODFREY, Ill. – The NJCAA No. 4 Vincennes Trailblazers held Lewis & Clark to 17 field goals, including three 3-pointers, and below VU’s defensive yield average Wednesday night in posting an 88-44 win and moving to 8-0 on the season.

The win was also a good start to the portion of VU’s schedule in which the Trailblazers begin facing NJCAA Region 24 competition.

On Wednesday, sophomore Deshawn Delaney had a game-high 21 points to lead four VU players in double figures. Sophomores Darius Carter and Monte Burney both had 13 and sophomore Tyran de Lattibeaudiere finished with 10. Freshman Loomis Gerring had eight points off the bench, including two of the Trailblazers’ seven treys.

The game became a “no-doubter” quickly as seven straight points by VU stretched the early lead over Lewis & Clark to 16-2 at about the 11:00 mark in the first half.  The Trailblazers increased the cushion to 40-17 by intermission and used a 19-4 run to start the second half to make it 59-21 with less than 14:00 left.

The Trailblazers will host Kaskaskia at 5 p.m. Saturday at the VU P.E. Complex. That game follows the second and final day of the VU Women's Basketball Team's Sodexo Classic. In that event, the VU women take on Owens at 3 p.m. and both the women’s and men’s games are part of a pink-out to support research and finding a cure for breast cancer.
