Chargers Slip to Cincinnati in OT
October 9, 2012
CINCINNATI, OH – Ancilla men’s soccer lost a tight contest to Cincinnati State Technical. The Chargers fell in the first overtime period with a 3-2 loss.
Coach Gallagher stated, “It was a huge step for us considering the last time we played Cincinnati they beat us 6-0. I think we knew that score was not indicative of our quality and our performance proved just that. Today was our sixth overtime game and we are so close but at the end of the day we are missing the timely moments of finishing.”
Brandon Query (Greencastle, IN) had a lightning strike from 25 yards away with his left foot that gave the Chargers a 1-0 lead. Cincinnati countered quickly with two goals to take the lead. Ignacio Avilles (La Habra, CA) hit a first time shot from 30 yards out to bring the Chargers back. In the end Cincinnati finished their first opportunity of the overtime to take the game.
Gallagher commented, “When you look at the two games this weekend it is something to build on. We have three games left against quality opponents and we just have to continue pushing in that positive direction if we want to be in consideration for playoffs.”
The Charger’s next match is scheduled at home tomorrow against Jackson Community College 4p.m. at Charger field.
Ancilla College enrolls 500 students in 17 degree programs ranging from accounting to nursing. It was founded by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ in 1937, and is located 2 miles south of US 30 on Union Road near Plymouth.
