Hinds football to host Jones in final home game of 2012
 October 9, 2012

RAYMOND – The final home game of the 2012 football season for the Hinds Community College Eagles will be played at Joe Renfroe Stadium in Raymond on Thursday night.

Hinds will host Jones County Junior College in a 6:30 p.m. start. The Bobcats are currently ranked 19th in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll.

The Eagles are coming off a 38-14 victory last Thursday over South division rival Southwest Community College. The win moved the Eagles to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the South division.

Hinds freshman quarterback Anthony D’Angelo (Long Beach) was highly effective in the win against the Bears, completing 18 of 26 passes for 197 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. His top target was wide receiver Quantavius Leslie (Hogansville, Ga.), who finished with eight catches for 135 yards and a touchdown.

The defensive line of Hinds, led by Dontrill Hyman (Warsaw, N.C.) and Risean Broussard (Lake Charles, La.) stifled the Southwest rushing attack by holding the Bears to -45 yards rushing and picking up seven sacks on the night.

Hyman finished with 2.5 sacks to increase his team leading total to seven, while Broussard had two sacks of his own to move his sack total to 5.5 on the season.

Jones enters Thursday night’s game fresh off a 46-21 victory over East Central Community College last week. The Bobcats are now 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the rugged South division.

The Bobcats offense is led by quarterback Ben Stevens, who is currently 106-184 with 1,369 yards passing, eight touchdowns and four interceptions. Jones also pounds the ball on the ground, led by running back Reuben Duckworth, who has 685 yards rushing and eight touchdowns on 126 attempts.

The linebacking corps of Damien Wilson and Marion Chapman lead the Jones defense. Wilson has 80 tackles (50 solos, 30 assists) on the season, while Chapman has 67 tackles (41 solos, 26 assists) thus far.
