Ancilla men's soccer Upsets #15 Owens
 October 8, 2012

DONALDSON, IN – The Chargers (3-4-3) defeated nationally ranked #15 Owens Community College 1-0 over the weekend. Manny Awuku (Hornchurch, UK) had a long throw to the box that found the great run of Jose Luzanilla (Holtville, CA) who flicked the ball past the Owens goalkeeper.

Coach Gallagher remarked, “I am so proud of my guys for sticking to the game plan. We were aware of the powerful offense Owens displayed in recent weeks to become ranked nationally so we aimed to be disciplined and timely with our counters in the attack.”

Rene Mejia (Canton, MI) and Alex Rosowicz (Cortland, OH) each kept clean sheets while taking a half in goal. Matt Willinger (Evansville, IN) and Juan Delgado (Encinitas, CA) anchored the backline that was under pressure most of the game and time after time kept composed.

Gallagher concluded, “Owens is a well coached side and very talented. I think we have shown we have what it takes to compete in the region if we are consistent throughout the game.”

Ancilla College enrolls 500 students in 17 degree programs ranging from accounting to nursing. It was founded by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ in 1937, and is located 2 miles south of US 30 on Union Road near Plymouth.
