Bobcat soccer teams sweep East CentralOctober 8, 2012
ELLISVILLE – Kevin Ndongo’s goal at the 83:00 minute mark gave Jones County Junior College a 2-1 victory over East Central Community College here on a cool Sunday night at Bobcat Soccer Field.
Ndongo, a freshman from Davidson High School in Mobile, Ala., scored off an assist by Erik Johnson, a freshman from West Harrison, to break a 1-1 tie and give the Bobcats their third straight win.
In the women’s game, Greene County freshman Kelsey Cochran scored four goals as the 15th-ranked Lady Bobcats blanked ECCC, 7-0.
The Bobcat soccer teams travel to Southwest Mississippi at 2/4 p.m. on Friday and will conclude regular season play at home at 5/7 p.m. on Oct. 16 vs. Pearl River.
ECCC visits Itawamba on Tuesday.
Bobcats 2, Warriors 1
It was a well-played, hard-fought game throughout, but the Bobcats prevailed in the end.
After a scoreless first half, the Warriors took the lead at the 62:51 mark when McGee Ledbetter scored.
The Bobcats tied it at 72:00 when Florence freshman Zack Traylor scored off an assist by Petal freshman Tanner Morris.
That set the stage for Ndongo’s game-winner.
JCJC outshot ECCC, 16-12. George County sophomore Alan Davidson was in goal for the Bobcats.
JCJC improves to 4-6-1 overall, while East Central is now 7-4-3.
Lady Bobcats 7, Lady Warriors 0
The Lady Bobcats remained unbeaten, moving their record to 10-0-1 with the victory.
Cochran scored at 28:51 and 32:20 as JCJC took a 2-0 lead at intermission.
Cochran assisted Oak Grove sophomore Kim Murray at 37:19 to make it 3-0. Cochran’s goal via an assist by Oak Grove sophomore Cassidy Brinson at 52:41 made it 4-0.
Cochran’s unassisted goal at 79:18 made it 5-0. Florence freshman Laurel Riebock scored off an assist by Northeast Jones sophomore Morgan Pace at 84:53.
Terry freshman Alexis Thornton scored on a header at 87:40 to end the scoring. Murray had the assist on the play.
George County freshman Kristen Pittman was in goal for the first half for JCJC, while D’Iberville sophomore Aundrea Borchardt was in goal for the second half.
JCJC outshot East Central, 31-0.
The Warriors fall to 2-10 on the year.
