Wiist, Harrison turn in top-3 finishes at Millikin Cross Country Invitational

Wiist edged by just seconds for women’s top spot
DECATUR, Ill. – Vincennes University freshman Whitney Wiist was second in the women’s race and VU freshman Dylan Harrison claimed third in the men’s race during Saturday’s Millikin University Cross Country Invitational at Nelson Park in Decatur, IL.
The VU men’s team was third out of four teams. Host Millikin won the event and Lindenwood-Belleville was second. Blackburn was fourth. The VU women didn’t post a team score in the women’s race that was also won by Millikin.
Wiist finished the 6k run in 24:40.19 to be the runner-up to winner Kindra Emberton of Millikin who recorded a time of 24:29.09. Trailblazer sophomore Corinne Butler was seventh at 27:01.22. Other VU runners in the women’s race were freshmen Karrie Wicker in 12th place (30:32.63) and Chelsey Baker in 14th (31:18.38).
Harrison’s time was 28:54.24. The winning time for the men was 28:05.86 by Lindenwood-Belleville’s Alberto Tellez.
The group of Trailblazer runners in the 8k men’s race also included freshmen Gary Austin in ninth place (30:25.62), John Rodrick in 14th place (31:06.59), Brody Wilson in 16th place (31:21.09) and Dylan Disinger in 24th place (32:58.58).
The Trailblazers will return to action Saturday, Oct. 13, at the University of Evansville.
