San Jac volleyball to face Laredo in first round of conference tournament

PASADENA, Texas - In the hunt for a fifth-consecutive Region XIV title, and yet another return trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national tournament, the San Jacinto College volleyball team will face Laredo Community College in the first round of the Region XIV tournament this weekend in Wharton.

Top seeded San Jac and No. 4 Laredo will square off for the third time this season, starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 6, at the Pioneer Gym and Fitness Center on the campus of Wharton County Community College.

San Jac, ranked 10th in the nation, owns an overall record of 28-7, and finished the regular season 9-1 in conference play. SJC is led by sophomore transfer Christie Dorch, (Friendswood / Friendswood HS) who is 31st in the country in kills per set with a 3.11 average. Freshman setter Nadejda Ivanova ranks ninth in the nation in assists per set with a 10.19 average.

The winner of Friday's match will face either second seed Lee College or third seed and host, Wharton on Saturday at 2 p.m., for the conference championship. The winner advances to the NJCAA national tournament November 19-21 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
