JCCC wins women's Region VI Soccer Title
November 2, 2009
In the championship match, both teams held each other in check until JCCC freshman Emily McKinney found the back of the net in the 108th minute. The MVP of the championship might have been sophomore Kelly Voigts and the defense in front of her. Voigts did not allow a goal in the three games of the tournament. Her first shutout, a 4-0 win over Neosho County, tied the school record for individual shutouts in a season. She set the record against Hutchinson, then upped her record to 15 shutouts with the victory over Barton. Voigts recorded a total of eight saves in the semifinal and final matches. ³We really limited our mistakes in the back,² said JCCC head coach Jim Schwab. ³The entire team played well defensively. They all covered for each other and we bonded together at the right time.² |
