Mesa's Cirelli wins 700th
 April 14, 2014

  MESA, AZ - Mesa baseball coach Tony Cirelli earned the 700th victory of his illustrious career Wednesday as the T-Birds completed a four-game season sweep of Chandler-Gilbert with a 7-4 win.

  Cirelli, and top assistant Doug Rose who has been with him for most of the run, has seen 45 of his players drafted by major league teams or played professionally.

  His 2006 team finished 44-21 and was ranked No. 1 in the nation. He has been named American Baseball Coaches Association NJCAA Division II Southwest Region Coach of the Year three times.

  He is, himself, a graduate of MCC and has a Master's Degree in Education from Arizona State.

  The New York City native joined the MCC coaching staff in 1985 and has been head coach since 1995.

  Six of his first 19 teams have won at least 40 games and the current squad in ranked No. 4 in the nation.
