No. 1-ranked Texans blitz Midland Thursday in Texan Dome

LEVELLAND – Andre Spight had his best shooting night of the year, scoring 24 points while making 9-of-13 shots from the field and the NJCAA No. 1-ranked South Plains College Texans ran away from Midland College Thursday night as they cruised to a 94-50 victory over the Chaparrals.

In addition to Spight’s outburst, the Texans got 18 from Roderick Lawrence and Cedrick McAfee chipped in with 15.  Billydee Williams added 11 as the Texans had four players scoring in double digits. 

South Plains (20-1, 7-0 WJCAC) raced out to a 14-point lead by the midway point of the first half and never looked back as they took a 27-point advantage to the locker room.

In the second half, the Texans led by as many as 52 before settling for the 44-point victory.

South Plains made 36-of-64 (.563) shots from the field and outrebounded the Chaparrals 32-21. 

Midland drops to 10-10 overall and 2-5 in league play with the loss.

Next up for the Texans is a road trip to Odessa where they will face a very good Wrangler team.  Game time is set for 7:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27.

The Texans next home game is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 10 at the Texan when they play New Mexico at 7:45 p.m.

WJCAC scores:  South Plains 94, Midland 50; New Mexico Military 80, Clarendon 70; Western Texas 58, Frank Phillips 44; New Mexico 76, Howard 68.
