EC Squads Defeat Hinds
 January 14, 2014

It was “sweep night” for East Central Community College’s basketball squads as they posted MACJC South Division victories over Hinds Community College Monday in the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building on the Decatur campus.

The Lady Warriors cruised 70-59 and improved to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in division play under second-year head coach Crandal Porter.

Jaleshia Jones led EC with 26 points. Jones is a freshman forward and product of Wayne County High School.

Also scoring in double figures were Tynika Bender, 18; and Tanihhija Hughes, 13. Bender is a freshman guard from Newton and Hughes is a sophomore forward from Forest. Hughes was also credited with 16 rebounds.

Rajee McDonald and Felicia Guynes each had 11 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs, who fell to 0-12 and 0-2.

EC led 41-35 at halftime.

In the men’s contest, EC held on for an 85-82 decision to improve to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in league competition under first-year head coach Robert Thompson.

Jacques Johnson led the Warriors with 30 points. Johnson is a sophomore guard/forward and product of Provine High School in Jackson.

Other scorers in double figures were Michael Matlock, 16; and Quinton Campbell, 10. Matlock is a freshman guard/forward from Central High School in Memphis. Campbell, a freshman forward, hails from Mary G. Montgomery High School in Mobile. Campbell led in rebounds with 14.

Rod Taylor pumped in 25 points to lead the Bulldogs, who dropped to 2-10 and 0-2.

EC held a 44-36 advantage at the break.

The Lady Warrior and Warriors travel to MS Gulf Coast Community College Thursday, Jan. 16. Game times are 6 and 8 p.m. on the Perkinston campus.
