SAINTS MOVE TO 7-0 WITH 63-55 WIN OVER GEORGIA HIGHLANDS
 November 23, 2013

Jacksonville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (7-0) played about as well defensively as a team possibly can, holding Georgia Highlands College to a season low 27% shooting from the field on Friday night to earn a 63-55 win in Jacksonville.  No Charger player had more than three made baskets and SF was even stingier in the first half, holding GH to just 18% shooting.

The Saints weren’t sharp on the offensive end either but managed to outscore the Chargers 31-24 over the first 20 minutes for a seven point halftime lead.

Georgia Highlands chipped away at the Saints led in the second half, tying the score at 51-51 late in the game.  SF turned things around from there and outscored the Chargers 12-4 over the final minutes for the victory.  The Saints won despite shooting just 48% from the free throw line and were outscored at the charity stripe 21-12.

“I’m proud of our guys for finding a way to win tonight after Georgia Highlands came back to tie it in the second half,” said SF Coach Chris Mowry.  “We are going to have to shoot the ball a little better tomorrow against Miami Dade, but I am very pleased overall with the defensive effort tonight.”

Jonathan Hood led the Santa Fe offensive charge, scoring 20 points.  Chad Milliken was the only other Saint in double figures with 12.

SF will square off in a battle of undefeated teams on Saturday when they face Miami Dade College (6-0) in Jacksonville at 2:00 PM.
