No. 11 Lady Senators roll past Columbia State, 73-40
 November 23, 2013

COLUMBIA, Tenn. – The 11th ranked Walters State Lady Senators won their seventh straight game to open the season with another rout Friday night, as they led from wire-to-wire in a 73-40 rout of Columbia State in a road TCCAA matchup.

The Lady Senators (7-0, 4-0 TCCAA) used a balanced scoring attack with 13 different players denting the scoring column, and they held a 64-31 edge on the boards while scoring 20 points off of Columbia turnovers.

WSCC added 20 second chance points and 34 points off the bench, and a 24-point halftime lead eventually reached a 44-point cushion in the second half before the Lady Chargers (3-7, 1-4 TCCAA) scored 15 of the last 19 points in the game to take a chunk out of the final deficit.

The win gave the Lady Senators six victories by at least 21 points, including five straight since a close win over ninth ranked Shelton State.

Walters State shot just 36.8 percent (28 of 76) from the floor, but they got plenty of second and third opportunities by hauling in 31 offensive rebounds in the win.

Jephany Brown paced the Lady Senators with a double-double, recording 13 points and 10 rebounds in the victory. Donnesha Shuler-Brown added 10 points, while Alyssa Kinsey had 9 for WSCC.

Columbia State shot only 23.6 percent (13 of 55) from the field, and they made just 9 of 19 from the free throw line. Lamarra Gordon led the Lady Chargers with 14 points, while Joznika Johnson finished with 10 in the defeat.

The Lady Senators will be back in action on Saturday for a 3 p.m. tipoff at TCCAA foe Jackson State.
