Odessa's Chavez chosen to coach Team USA Golf Team in 2014
 November 21, 2013

ODESSA (Nov. 19, 2013) – Odessa College Golf Coach, Paul Chavez, has been selected by the NJCAA Golf Coaches Association to coach Team USA at the 2014 World University Golf Championships in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

"I am truly honored to be selected as the Team USA coach for the 2014 World University Golf Championships,” Chavez said.

This will be the third time that he has been selected to coach a Team USA. Chavez had much success in the 2004 event (Team USA won Bronze medal) and in the 2006 event (Team USA won Silver medal).

“The 2004 and 2006 events were a great experience, and I expect the 2014 to be even better.  I am excited, thrilled, and delighted to be involved in such a prestigious event,” Chavez said. “I look forward to guiding these young men to a Gold medal … Gold medal all the way!”

The tournament will take place at the world famous Haut-Plateau resort, home of the European Tour Omega European Masters, June 21-28, 2014.

Team USA will be comprised of three NJCAA and three NAIA student-athletes. Coach Chavez said he will begin the process of selecting Team USA immediately and will make the announcements as they become available.

The Odessa College Wrangler Golf program recently completed a very successful fall season winning four of six events, under the direction of Coach Chavez.  The Wranglers are currently ranked #1 in the NJCAA Golf Coaches Association Poll.
