Senators finish fourth at State Farm Intercollegiate, place three in top 8

AZEWELL, Tenn. – The Walters State Senators tied a school record Tuesday with an 8-under par score of 280 at Woodlake Golf Course in the final round of the State Farm Intercollegiate, giving them a fourth place finish in the event hosted by Lincoln Memorial University.

The Senators trailed by nine shots entering the final round and ended up just six back of the winner, LMU, who matched WSCC’s final round score to shoot a two-day total of 567 (9-under par).

Mars Hill was second at 569 (7-under par), while Tusculum finished third at 571 (5-under). Walters State carded a 573 (3-under par) for the two days, putting them 12 shots clear of fifth place Brevard (585).

Anderson finished sixth at 593, followed by Catawba (596), Pfeiffer (599) and Georgia Southwestern (607) in the field.

Andrew Hall followed up his opening round 68 with an even par 72 in the final round to tie for second at 4-under par 140. Adam Lumley of Mars Hill was the individual winner at 5-under par 139 (69-70).

Brad Hawkins tied for sixth place at 3-under par 141 after firing a 69 in the final round. Cody Johnson was a shot behind at 2-under par 140, tying for eighth place after posting a 69 in the second round.

Elliott Taliaferro shot a 1-under par 71 in the final round to finish the event tied for 33rd place with a 7-over par 151, and Will Wright tied for 39th place after a two-day score of 9-over par 153 (82-71).

Cory Martin played an in individual and tied for 54th after carding a 159 (77-82) for two days.

The Senators will be back in action Monday, Oct. 21, when they host the Walters State Golf Classic at The Country Club, Inc., in Morristown.
