Ancilla Volleyball Goes 1-1 at Tri-Match
 October 14, 2013

PLYMOUTH, IN – It was a bittersweet day for the Lady Chargers as they hosted the Ancilla Tri-Match, losing to Waubonsee Community College 25-15, 25-13, 28-26, but victorious over Danville Community College 25-23, 25-12, 25-23.

Despite losing their first match, the Chargers managed to put up commendable numbers between both games. Ancilla’s offense, led by Suzanne Grimm (34) and Courtney Griffith (27), set for 61 of the team’s 75 assists. Their efforts allowed the Chargers to end the day with six players in double digit kills. Tops in that category was Mariah Kinney with seventeen, Mieka Wagner picked up fourteen, and Griffith added thirteen of her own. An additional 34 kills came courtesy of Grimm, Jessica Moore, and Hayley Mavrick putting down twelve, twelve, and ten respectively. Dishing out 30 digs each, Mackenzie White and Suzanne Grimm headed Ancilla’s defense. Wagner, filling in at the middle position, led the blocking with five total (2 solo and 3 assists).

Charger coach Lana Singleton boasted, “I was proud of Mariah [Kinney] and Mieka [Wagner] because I felt both stepped up their game this weekend to help fill in the role of an injured teammate. I was also very pleased with the production of both setters, Suzanne [Grimm] and Courtney [Griffith] as they contributed to other categories other than assists. They are a talented pair and continue to impress me.”

Tuesday, October 15, the Chargers resume conference play at 6:30 p.m. as they travel to Benton Harbor, Michigan, home of the Lake Michigan College Red Hawks.

Ancilla College, part of The Center at Donaldson, offers 18 Associate’s Degree and eight athletic programs.
