VICTORIA – The 11th-ranked Hutchinson Community College women’s cross country team used its final tune-up before the Region VI Championships in 16 days to its full use on Saturday at the Fort Hays State University Invitational at Sand Plum Park.

Three different Lady Dragons broke the 20-minute park and all five who figured in the scoring were under 21 minutes as Hutchinson’s women did very well against a stacked field of NCAA Division II powers.

Freshman Kaylah Romine and sophomores Cecilia Lane and Ashlynn Lambert all went sub-20 minutes over the 5K women’s course to lead Hutchinson to a 10th-place finish in the 17-team field that consisted of 168 runners.

Romine broke 20 minutes for the first time in her collegiate career with a 42nd-place time of 19 minutes, 15.40 seconds.

Lane went sub-20 for the fourth time in her career. She placed 49th in a time of 19:28.70

Lambert ran a sub-20 time for the third time in her Lady Dragon career. She was 65th in a time of 19:47.72.

As impressive as those three runners were, freshmen Priscilla King and Michaela Golliher were equally as impressive with both breaking the 22-minute barrier for the first time this season.

King placed 96th in a time of 20:53.70. Golliher was 100th in 20:55.87.

Other Lady Dragons runners’ results on Saturday were: Jordan Hall, 134th (22:11.77); Ashley Claxton, 138th (22:28.44); Kaitlin Henson, 142nd (22.58.32), Taylor Arnold, 152nd (a personal-best 23:35.20) and Breah Waldron, 160th (24:22.96).

Adams State won the women’s team title with 54 points. Pittsburg State was second with 59. Hutchison was the top-finishing junior college or NAIA program in the field.

+ MEN’S RACE – Sophomore John Murphy III continued his strong season, leading the Blue Dragons for the fourth-straight meet. Murphy placed 33rd in the 226-runner field with an 8K time of 25:23.80.

The 18th-ranked Blue Dragon men placed 14th out of 22 teams with 370 points. Allen and Garden City finished ahead of the Blue Dragons.

Freshman Colton Butler was the third Blue Dragon runner to finish, taking 104th with a time of 26:51.40. Freshman Drew Hageman was 154th with a time of 27:46.40 and Darryn Rohr was 167th with a time of 28:11.90.
