WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Four players reached double figures in kills and sophomore libero Samantha Lackey had a career-best defensive match as the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team dropped a five-set thriller with Missouri State University-West Plains in the final match of the West Plains Invitational on Saturday at the West Plains Civic Center.

HCC dropped the first set, but rallied to win the next two only to see the Grizzlies take the final two as HCC fell to 0-5 in five-set matches this season with a 21-25, 25-20, 25-17, 22-25, 11-15 decision.

Second-year HCC head coach Patrick Hall said the match had numerous long, hard-hitting rallies, including one that lasted at least 2 minutes in duration.

All-American Teresa Wade had her second-straight  match of 20 or more kills and her 11th double-double of the season with 21 kills and 13 digs to lead the Lady Dragons (16-9 overall). Wade moved past Molly Bergkamp into fourth place on the HCC career kills list.

Lackey had a career-best 37 digs, which if verified would be a Hutchinson team record for a player. She moved past Megan Koster into second place on the HCC career digs list and is only one of two Lady Dragons in history – Mariana Blum is the other – to have at least 1,000 digs for her career.

Sophomore Dragana Micic posted her fourth-straight double-double with 13 kills and a career-high 18 digs.

Freshman Nicole Kinser had 11 kills and 31 total in the three matches. Freshman Kawehi Granito-Wallace also had 11 kills.

Freshman setter Alex Keller had 41 assists, while freshman setter Paige Weidner posted her second double-double with 11 assists and 11 digs.

Hutchinson will play host to Garden City at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Sports Arena.
