Northern Okla A&M downs Rose State in Region 2 Tourney Action
 May 10, 2013

JENKS- Sophomore right-hander Rickey Rivera threw a complete game as the No. 3 seed Northeastern A&M Golden Norsemen defeated No. 4 seed Rose State College 8-1 Thursday afternoon in the opening game of the Men's Division 1 Region 2 Baseball Tournament at Jenks High School's Hinch Field.

"Rickey really threw well," Golden Norse head coach Roger Ward said. "He wasn't sharp early, but as the game went on, he threw extremely well in the back end. We struggled with whether or not to leave him in because he wound up throwing 126 pitches.
This is the hardest game in the tournament to play because neither team had much chance to get ready after a long bus ride," Ward said. "Once he settled in, Rickey (6-4) consistently threw strikes which was kind of a surprise because he hadn't pitched in two weeks with a slight injury."

With the victory the Golden Norsemen (31-15) battle No. 5 seed Eastern State College (25-28) at 3:30 p.m. Friday. The Mountaineers upset No. 2 seed Seminole State College (36-17) by an 11-5 score in a marathon game that had a 45-minute rain delay and took five hours to finish.

No. 1 seed and 13th ranked Connors State College (45-9) battled No. 6 seed Arkansas Baptist College (27-29) in Thursday nights final game. The winner of that game will face Rose State College (28-24) at 7 p.m. Friday in the second round of the double-elimination tournament.

The loser of the Connors-Arkansas Baptist game faces Seminole State at noon on Friday in an elimination game.

"Revenge was a dish best served cold" as the Golden Norse were still stinging from a four-game sweep of the series by the Raiders April 18-20 during the regular season.

Rose State's only run of the game occurred in the top of the first inning on singles by Joe Black and Derek Jones and a fielder's choice by Ryan Bottger.

NEO responded with two runs in the bottom of the first inning before erupting for four runs in the fourth and solo runs in the sixth and eighth innings.
