OC Sports Softball Players of the Week: April 29 - May 5
 May 8, 2013

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Rhiana Balaun (College of Southern Nevada), Kaci Lantrip (Pearl River CC, Miss.), Haley Husom (Century College, Minn.) and Brittany LeBlanc (Pearl River CC, Miss.) have been named OC Sports NJCAA softball players of the week for games April 29 – May 5.


DIVISION I PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Rhiana Balaun – College of Southern Nevada
First Base – Henderson, Nev. – Foothill High School

Coming up big in the Coyotes against Western Nevada College, Balaun’s unrelenting offense spurred Southern Nevada on to the four-game sweep. Batting for a .692 average (9-for-13), Balaun totaled nine RBIs and four runs scored. The freshman added a triple and a stolen base to her weekly numbers. Balaun is batting .408 for the Coyotes in 2013, tallying team highs in home runs with 15 and RBIs with 68.


DIVISION II PLAYER OF THE WEEK  

Kaci Lantrip – Pearl River Community College, Miss.
Shortstop – Terry, Miss. – Terry High School

Lantrip had a sensational performance Sunday, leading the Wildcats to a 15-0 win over Itawamba CC (Miss.) in their only game of the week. The freshman was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a home run. Lantrip brought home five runs in the game while scoring one of her own. Pearl River has seen Lantrip hit six doubles and five home runs in 2013.


DIVISION III PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Haley Husom – Century College, Minn.
Shortstop – Maplewood, Minn. – North High School

Earning player of the week honors for the second time in 2013, Husom spurred the Wood Ducks on to two wins in their four games last week. Husom batted for a .529 average (9-for-17) with two doubles and a triple. The freshman accumulated eight RBIs across the week and scored eight runs of her own. Husom leads the Wood Ducks with a .593 batting average on the year.


NJCAA PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Brittany LeBlanc – Pearl River Community College, Miss.
Right-Handed Pitcher – Maurice, La. – North Vermillion High School

In the Wildcats’ 15-0 win over Itawamba CC (Miss.), LeBlanc pitched five near-perfect innings. The sophomore gave up one hit and one walk in the outing while striking out four batters. In 132 innings of work in 2013, LeBlanc leads the Wildcats with a 2.87 ERA and 98 strikeouts.
