Hinds CC men's track shines at Samford
 April 29, 2013

RAYMOND – The trek down I-20 East has become all too familiar for the Hinds Community College men’s track and field team, and this weekend gave the Eagles another opportunity to prepare for the upcoming National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Outdoor Nationals.

The Eagles, who competed in Birmingham three times during the indoor portion of the 2013 campaign, took part in the Samford Multi Invitational on Saturday and placed in the top five in four different events.

David Carlton (Biloxi) and Michael Newton (Atlanta, Ga.) finished in second and fifth place, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Carlton was runner-up with a time of 47.76 seconds, and Newton finished fifth with a time of 48.38 seconds.

The 4x100 meter relay quartet of Carlton, Mateo Edward (Panama), Jermaine Authorlee (Houston, Texas) and Robert Wells (Fayette) came in third place overall with a time of 41.14 seconds.

Hinds also scored fifth place finishes in both the 1500-meter run and the high jump.

Justin Davis (Edwards) finished the near mile run in 4:14.17 while teammate Seth Peace (Brandon) leaped 6’6 ¾” in the high jump to both finish fifth
