Hinds CC baseball wins three of four
 April 11, 2013

RAYMOND – The Hinds Community College baseball team has picked up steam as of late, winning three South division contests in a row before falling in the second game of a doubleheader versus Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Tuesday.
Hinds won game one, 8-2, before dropping the nightcap, 8-4, on the road versus the Bulldogs.

The Eagles of Hinds swept Co-Lin Community College on Saturday in Raymond to start the three-game win streak. Hinds won game one, 7-6, in extra innings, then capped off the day with an 11-6 victory in game two.

John Gault (Shreveport, La.) got the win on the mound in the first game on Tuesday against Gulf Coast. The sophomore right-hander threw six innings, allowing only two unearned runs and striking out three to earn the win.

Austin Hartzog (Terry), Brian Mills (Magee), Justin Smith (Florence) and Akiko Thompson (Clinton) all had two hits in the opener to lead the Hinds offense.

Hunter Duvic (St. Francisville, La.) took the hard-luck loss in the second game, despite throwing five innings and allowing only one earned run.

Connor Goodspeed (Madison), Hartzog and Thompson each collected two hits in the game two loss.

Mills provided the heroics for the Eagles in the first game on Saturday versus the Wolves of Co-Lin, hitting a game-tying two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at five and send it into extra innings.

Two innings later, Will Bearden (Belzoni) would hit an opposite field single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Hinds the one-run victory and momentum heading into the second game.

Chase Cater (Rayville, La.) threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning to preserve the tie and claim the win on the mound.

Jayme Monroe (Clinton) scattered seven hits and finished with five strikeouts in his complete game win on the mound in the nightcap.

Smith and Beau Wallace (Vicksburg) each finished with three hits and one RBI in the second game against Co-Lin. Wallace also had two hits in the first game.

Hinds will return to game action on Saturday, stepping out-of-conference to take on Holmes Community College. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Smith Wills Stadium in Jackson.
