EC Tennis Teams Fall to Jones County1
 April 11, 2013

East Central Community College’s tennis squads dropped decisions to Jones County Junior College Tuesday, April 9 on the Decatur campus.

The Warriors were edged 5-4 and the Lady Warriors were blanked 6-0.

In men’s competition, results were as follows:

Doubles – Newton County High School product Blake Cochran and Chris Mays of Louisville defeated Josh Lomas and Tanner Chamblee of Jones, 9-8 (10-8), and Andrew Hanna of Newton County Academy and Hunter Mayo of Leake Academy beat Ryan Young and Harrison Thomas of Jones, 8-4. Brandon St. Clair of Newton County and Josh Peoples of Leake Academy fell 8-6 to Bobcats Caleb Byrd and Jonathan Jones.

Singles – St. Clair defeated Young 6-2, 6-4; Mayo beat Luke Holston 7-5, 6-2; Cochran fell to Lomas, 6-3, 6-1; Hanna fell to Chamblee, 6-4, 6-4; Mays fell to Byrd, 6-0, 6-2; and Peoples fell to Daniel Sullivan, 6-2, 6-2.

In women’s competition, results were as follows:

Doubles – Kelsey Tadlock and Haley Chapman, both of Newton County, lost to Alicia Domoney/Stephanie Smith, 8-1; Alana Turner of Florence and Amber Pierce of Leake Academy lost to Brenda Hegwood/Elizabeth Wright, 8-4; and Nan Hartness of Winston Academy and Hannah Smith of Leake Academy fell to Madison Walker/Carly Stuart, 8-4.

Singles – Tadlock fell to Domoney, 6-0, 6-1; Chapman fell to Smith, 6-1, 6-0; Turner fell to Hegwood, 6-2, 6-2; Pierce fell to Aja White, 6-0, 6-3; Hartness fell to Wright, 6-0, 6-1; and Smith fell to Brooke Martin, 6-0, 6-0.

EC travels to Copiah-Lincoln Friday, April 12 and hosts Northwest in the season finale Monday, April 15. Matches begin at 2 p.m.
