BOONEVILLE, Miss. –  Northeast Mississippi Community College freshman Blake Farris of Corinth led the Tiger golf team at the fifth Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) tour stop of the year.

Hosted by East Mississippi Community College at the Mississippi State University Golf Course in Starkville, Farris and the Tigers rallied on the second day of the event to finish eighth with a two-day 653.

Northeast edged out Holmes Community College by one stroke for the eighth place finish 653 to 654 after the Bulldogs repeated their first day’s performance with an identical 327 on the second day.

Northeast shaved 15 strokes off its opening day round of 334 for a second day 319.

Farris stayed consistent with his scoring with back-to-back 75s – 4-over each day – to finish in a tie for twelfth in the individual standings.

Booneville’s Jay Swinney was the next closest Tiger golfer when the Northeast freshman carded a two-day 157 to finish in a tie for twenty-eighth overall. Swinney fired a 78 on the opening day at the Mississippi State University course and carded a 79 on the second day.

New Albany’s Peyton Dunlap finished with a two-day 173 and knocked a stroke off his opening round 87 with an 86 on the second day while a pair of Baldwyn products helped Northeast move up in the rankings.

Baldwyn’s Jordan Wilson and Ty Lindsey combined to cut 24 strokes off their opening round scores to help the Tigers edge the Bulldogs.

Wilson finished one spot behind Dunlap in a tie for forty-ninth with a two-day 176 after slicing his opening round 94 down to an 82 on the second day.

Lindsey matched Wilson’s performance with a 12-stroke improvement and came in fifty-third overall in the tournament after knocking a dozen strokes off his opening round 95 for a second-day 83.

After a week of rest, Northeast’s golf team will be back in action at the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) State Golf Tournament hosted by Jones County Junior College on April 14-15 at Dixie Golf Course in Laurel.
