San Jac soccer players head to PDL leagues for the summer
 April 9, 2013

HOUSTON – Three members of the San Jacinto College soccer team will be playing for the United Soccer League’s (USL) Premier Development League (PDL) this summer.

Midfielder Jose Seoane (Nuestra Senora del Carmen/Coruna, Spain) will play for the Austin Aztex, who finished second in the Mid-South Division in 2012. Two new members to the 2013 team, Joao Monteiro and Ian Barbosa, will also play PDL soccer for the Laredo Heat, which finished first in the Mid-South Division in 2012. Monteiro and Barbosa recently signed on to play for San Jacinto College in the Fall. Both attended Colégio e Curso Ícaro in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

The USL Premier Development League is the professional development league of the United States, Canada, and Bermuda, forming part of the American Soccer Pyramid. It is currently the top-level men's amateur soccer competition in the United States, and has 62 teams competing in four conferences, split into nine regional divisions. The PDL season runs during the summer months, with the player pool drawn mainly from elite National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) college soccer players seeking to continue playing high-level soccer during their summer break, while still maintaining their college eligibility.

The San Jacinto College men’s soccer team will hold open tryouts for the 2013 season on Friday, April 19, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the South Campus soccer field. Tryouts are open to high school seniors, recent graduates, and other college transfers. Participants are required to bring their own shin guards and water. The San Jacinto College South Campus is located at 13735 Beamer Road in Houston.

For more information about open tryouts, please contact Soccer Head Coach Ian Spooner at 281-922-3475, email ian.spooner@sjcd.edu, or visit www.sanjacsports.com.
