ECCC Golfers Place Fifth in EMCC Tourney

East Central Community College’s golf team finished fifth in MACJC Event # 5 held April 7-8 at the Mississippi State University Golf Course and hosted by East Mississippi Community College in Scooba.

The Warrior linksters carded a two-day total 614 (306-308) in the 36-hole contest, won by MS Gulf Coast Community College with a score of 584 (288-296). Copiah-Lincoln was runner-up at 593 (297-296).  East MS (300-302) and Northwest MS (299-303) tied at 602, followed by ECCC; Hinds, 634 (318-316); Jones County, 635 (328-307); Northeast MS, 653 (334-319); Holmes, 654 (327-327); and Itawamba, 683 (347-336).

Sawyer Williams led EC with rounds of 73 and 77 for a 150 total. Williams is a product of Parkers Chapel High School in Eldorado, Ark.

Tied at 152 were Taylor York (77-75) of Choctaw Central and Newton County High School product Lee McDill (75-77).  Aaron Tucker of Leake Central posted a 153 (75-78) followed by Shelby Patterson of Forest, 160 (81-79); and Evan Dowell of Carthage, 171 (86-85).

Chris Clark serves as Warrior golf coach.

Next up is the MACJC State Championship scheduled April 14-15 at Dixie Golf Club in Laurel. Jones County Junior College is designated as tournament host.
