Hinds CC women's track wins six events at MC Twilight

RAYMOND – The Hinds Community College women’s track and field team finished in third place overall in the Mississippi College Twilight Invitational on Friday in Clinton.

The Lady Eagles had 96 points to come in third place behind runner-up Grambling University (98 points) and champion Southeastern Louisiana University (105.5 points).

Hinds claimed first place honors in the following events: 4x100 meter relay, 4x400 meter relay, long jump, 100-meter dash, 400-meter dash and the high jump.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Pamala Byrd (Jackson), Vinnessa Bartholomew (Bridge City, La.), Kenyattia Hackworth (Mobile, Ala.) and Iris Robinson (Birmingham, Ala.) broke their own school record with a time of 46.05 seconds to come in first place.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Kimari Martin (Huntsville, Ala.), Hackworth, Shaterrica Rhodes (Greenville) and Robinson also set a new Hinds record with a time of 3:36.42 seconds.

The records continued to be broken in the long jump event, as Hackworth jumped 20’ 8 ½” to break the old school mark.

Kieyiera Shipp (Olive Branch) won first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.09 seconds. Teammate Pamala Byrd (Jackson) finished just behind in third place with a time of 12.13 seconds.

Rhodes ran the 400-meter dash in 55.60 seconds to finish first place and Martin came in second place in the same event with a time of 57.43 seconds.

Desherra Jackson (Picayune) won the high jump event with a jump of 5’ 5 ½.

The Lady Eagles also had significant finishes in the 200-meter dash, as Hackworth (25.23 seconds) and Byrd (25.35 seconds) came in second and fourth place, respectively.
