Hinds CC men's track wins three events at MC Twilight

RAYMOND – The annual Mississippi College Twilight Invitational was held in Clinton on Friday and the Hinds Community College men’s track and field team finished in third place overall after winning three events.

The Eagles had 93 points overall to come in third place behind runner-up Grambling University (142 points) and first place finisher Southeastern Louisiana University (151 points).

Hinds had first place finishes in the 4x100 meter relay, 4x400 meter relay and 400-meter dash, along with many more top-five overall finishes in numerous events.

Anthony Williams (Southaven), Jermaine Authorlee (Houston, Texas), Mateo Edward (Panama) and Colby Huff (Meadville) comprised the 4x100 meter relay team that claimed top honors by running the event in 40.30 seconds.

The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Dontavious Wright (Conyers, Ga.), Huff, Michael Newton (Atlanta, Ga.) and David Carlton (Biloxi) also notched the coveted number one spot with a time of 3:12.71.

Newton also earned another first place finish, this time in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.95 seconds.

Teammates Carlton (48.42 seconds) and Jerodrick Draper (Utica, 48.67 seconds) came in second and fourth place, respectively, in the 400-meter dash.

Edward (10.75 seconds), Williams (10.76 seconds) and Authorlee (10.77 seconds) came in second, third and fourth place, respectively, in the 100-meter dash.

Seth Peace (Brandon) and Jalen Price (Utica) had top-five finishes in the high jump. Peace came in second place with a jump of 6’8” and Price earned a fourth place finish with a jump of 6’6”.

Jermale Mosby (Shelby) had a third place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.64 seconds, and Wright came in fourth place with a time of 1:53.29 in the 800-meter run.
