EC Softball Squad Takes Twin Bill from Copiah-Lincoln

East Central Community College’s fast-pitch softball team earned a pair of division contests by sweeping a doubleheader from Copiah-Lincoln Community College Saturday, April 6 on the Decatur campus.

The Lady Diamond Warriors posted a 4-2 victory in the opener and held for a 2-1 decision in the second contest to improve to 23-9 overall and 7-5 in the MACJC South Division. Co-Lin dropped to 19-13-1 and 4-10.

Dekota Vowell led the offense in the opener, as the Neshoba Central High School product slapped a single in the fourth inning and doubled in the sixth.

Morgan Porter of Enterprise was the top run producer with a two-run triple.

Other hitters were LaJoya Griffin of Philadelphia and Lindsey Beard of Clarkdale, single and RBI each; Marlee Massey of Neshoba Central, triple; Amber McBroom of Brandon, double; and A.J. Peeler and Ty Buckley, both of Neshoba Central, singles each.

Runs were scored by Kaylin Hopkins (2) of Louisville, McBroom and Massey.

Tenna Patterson went the distance in recording the victory. Patterson allowed one earned run on four hits through seven innings. She also fanned five batters and walked one. Patterson is a product of Lexington (Ala.) High School.

In the second contest, Buckley’s two-run homer in the sixth inning provided EC with the winning margin.

Other hitters were Massey, double; and Peeler, McBroom, Porter and Beard, singles each. Beard also scored.

Starter Mary Sanders hurled a scoreless 5 1/3 innings and allowed just four hits before being relieved by Patterson, who allowed one earned run on two hits. She also fanned a batter.

The Lady Diamond Warriors travel to Hinds Community College Tuesday, April 9 and host Pearl River Community College Thursday, April 11. Game times for both doubleheaders are scheduled at 2 and 4 p.m.

EC’s softball program is led by first-year head coach Kristin Chaney and assistant Courtney Nunn.
