Bobcats finish seventh in EMCC Tournament

STARKVILLE – The Jones County Junior College golf team finished seventh in MACJC Event No. 5, hosted by East Mississippi Community College, here Monday at the Mississippi State University Golf Course.

The Bobcats improved by 21 shots during Monday’s second round, posting a 307. Coupled with an opening round 328, that gave them a two-day total of 635.

Mississippi Gulf Coast won the tournament with a 584, while Co-Lin finished second at 593. East Mississippi and Northwest tied for third with a 602.

Individually, Co-Lin’s Connor Barnes was tied for sixth place after round one, but came back to shoot a 70 on Monday and claim medalist honors. Barnes finished with a 73-70 – 143. MGCCC’s Jake Pritchard and EMCC’s Miles Respess tied for second after posting identical scores of 73-71 – 144.

JCJC was led by Branning Dykes. Dykes, a sophomore from Richton, shot a 73 on Monday to go with a first round of 80 for a 153. That tied him for 19th place.

Cory Brown, playing as an individual, shot an 81-75 – 156 for the Bobcats. Other JCJC scores were Sawyer Taylor, 86-76 – 162, Jon-Michael White 83-79 – 162, Anthony Herrington 80-84 – 164 and Zach Toney 85-79 – 164.

JCJC will now serve as host for the MACJC State Tournament, which takes place April 14-15 at Laurel’s Dixie Golf Club.
