Anderson's Three-Run Triple Lifts EC over Gulf Coast

Tim Anderson’s walk-off three-run triple provided East Central Community College with a stunning 5-3 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in the nightcap of their division battle played Friday, March 29 at the Clark/Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur.

The Diamond Warriors, who fell 8-3 in the opener, are currently second in the MACJC South Division at 7-3. Jones County leads the division at 9-3.Gulf Coast is fifth at 4-6.

Anderson singled in the first inning prior to his ninth-inning heroics. The sophomore shortstop is a product of Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Other hitters were Dominican Republic native Rubert Alcantara, two singles and RBI; and Kyle Henson of Starkville Academy and Jake Bush of Brookwood (Ala.) High School, singles each.

Right-hander Fernando Gonzalez was the winning pitcher. Gonzalez allowed one earned run on six hits through eight innings. He also fanned seven batters and walked three. Gonzalez is a Puerto Rico native.

Severino Signa of Stoneville hurled the final inning and allowed one earned run on two hits. He also walked a batter. The right-hander is a product of Deer Creek High School.

In the first contest, Alcantara led the offense with a solo home run.

Other hitters were Ryan Shotts of Louisville, RBI double; and Anderson, Chase Domino of Fairhope (Ala.) High School and Newton County High School product Xavier Franklin, singles each.

Starter Blake Dubuisson took the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits through 2 2/3 innings. He also fanned a batter and walked one. The right-hander is a product of Long Beach High School.

The Diamond Warriors, 15-14 overall, take on Hinds Community College Tuesday, April 2. Doubleheader action begins at 4 p.m. on the Raymond campus. The Eagles are 11-17 overall and 2-8 in league play.  (The division doubleheader was previously scheduled for Wednesday, April 3.)

EC travels to Pearl River Community College Saturday, April 6. The division twin bill gets under way at 1 p.m. on the Poplarville campus. The Wildcats are currently 6-4 in the division and 23-9 overall.

East Central’s baseball program is led by head coach Neal Holliman and assistants Justin Brewer and Jack Edmonson.
