Walters State takes two from Cleveland State
 April 1, 2013

MORRISTOWN - The Nationally 16th ranked Lady Senators of Walters State flexed their considerable muscles on Saturday afternoon as they quickly disposed of the Cleveland State Lady Cougars in the final two games of their four-game weekend series.

After splitting a twinbill on Friday, Kelsey Weddle and Lindsey Vaught did their part in the circle for the Lady Senators as each lady tossed a one-hitter in both ends of the doubleheader on Saturday as Walters State claimed an 8-0 win in each game and took three of the four games in the series.

A hit batter, an error and a sacrifice fly accounted for the first pair of runs of the day as the Lady Senators took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning. Andrea Elson belted a three-run homer in the second to push the lead to 5-0 and Kaylea Payne added a two-run double in the fifth to finish game one in only five innings.

Four Lady Cougar miscues and three Walters State (21-5, 14-3) hits added up to a six run first inning in game two which would be all the run support that Weddle would need. Payne knocked in another run in the fifth for good measure as the home team ended the game in five innings.

Kelsey Haley and Ida Watson handled the pitching duties for Cleveland State (8-17, 5-14) while Ciera Belcher picked up the only Lady Cougar hit in game one and Leslie Still had the only safety in game two.

The Lady Cougars will return home to host Jackson State next weekend in a four-game series.
