7th-ranked Lady Bobcats take two from ECCC

ELLISVILLE – The 7th-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats posted a pair of impressive victories over East Central Community College here Tuesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.

Rebecca Dunn’s three-run home run keyed JCJC to a 7-4 win in the opener, while Michele Hester tossed a one-hit shutout in game two, as JCJC won 8-0 in six innings.

The Lady Bobcats are now 22-4 overall, 7-3 in the MACJC South Division. East Central falls to 20-8 and 4-4.

JCJC will host Baton Rouge Community College (La.) in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Thursday. The games will be webcast on www.jcjc.tv with Shawn Wansley handling the play-by-play duties.

East Central travels to Southwest Mississippi for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Thursday.

Lady Bobcats 7, Lady Warriors 4

The Lady Bobcats scored three runs in the first inning and got a three-run home run from Dunn in the third inning to take a 6-0 lead. ECCC scored two runs each in the fourth and sixth innings to get within 6-4. JCJC added a run in the bottom of the sixth.

In addition to Dunn’s home run, Relanda McFarland tripled and had two singles. Bethany Volking, Karley Crosby and Brooke David each had a pair of singles. Alex Barrett and Kalyn McNabb added singles.

Samantha Buller went the distance and posted the victory. She allowed two earned runs, four hits, walked one and struck out three to improve to 12-2.

Amber McBroom homered for East Central, while AJ Peeler, Hayley Stephens and Morgan Porter added singles.

Tenna Patterson started and took the loss. She pitched three innings, giving up six runs and eight hits. Mary Sanders went the final three innings and allowed one run on four hits.

Hester, 9-2, allowed only a double to Porter in the third inning. She walked one and struck out five.

Makenzie Hawkins and David each homered for the Lady Bobcats. David also singled twice. Bethany Volking doubled and singled, while C.C. Lawn, McFarland, Dunn and McNabb all singled.

Patterson went the first 5 1/3 innings and was charged with the loss. She allowed six runs (two earned), eight hits, walked two and struck out one. Sanders went 1/3 of an inning and gave up two hits.

JCJC scored four runs in the first, two in the third and two in the sixth.
