The West Georgia Technical College Golden Knights invaded Cougar Field on a frigid Tuesday afternoon and had very few problems in posting a 7-0 whitewashing on the Cleveland State baseball team.

The Knights used a nine-inning complete game shutout pitching performance from Tyler Banks and big day at the plate from Beau Welborn who had four of the visitors eight hits to pick up the win.

The Knights scored in four straight innings, starting in the third as a sacrifice fly from Nic Vinson plated the first run of the afternoon. WGTC tacked on two more an inning later on a pair of walks and a two-run single by Welborn for a 3-0 lead.

The wheels fell off the Cleveland State wagon in the fifth as three more runs crossed on a hit batter, a wild pitch, a passed ball and a two-run single by Andrew Ligon to push the lead to 6-0.

The Knights maded it a touchdown and extra point lead with with another unearned run in the sixth as two more walks, an error and a double from Blake Butcher accounted for the final run of the day.

The Golden Knights (15-15) left 13 runners on base while the Cougars (16-12) had only nine runners reach base, stranding five of them. The Knights also benefited from 10 walks and several Cougar miscues as only four of their runs were earned and also turned four doubleplays defensively.

Jared Davis picked up three of the Cougars six hits in the game. Ethan Davis started the game on the mound for the Cougars and suffered the loss while Andre Wilson, Derek Chandler, Jordan Whitmire, Haydn Bailey, Tyler Kilgore and Bobby Towne all toed the rubber in relief.

The Cougars will now hit the road for Volunteer State on Thursday and Friday for a three-game Region VII Conference series.
