Bobcat golfers finish fourth in Northwest Tournament

OLIVE BRANCH – The Jones County Junior College golf team finished in fourth place here in the Northwest Mississippi Community College Tournament on Tuesday.

JCJC shot a 313 in Tuesday’s second round Wedgewood Golf Club to go with an opening round of 334 on Monday at North Creek Golf Club in Southaven for a 647 total.

Co-Lin and the host Rangers tied for the top spot. Co-Lin shot a 309-318 –627, while the Rangers posted a 319-308 – 627. Mississippi Gulf Coast was third with a 331-309 – 640.

Bobcat Branning Dykes had the best score of all golfers on Tuesday, shooting an even-par 72. He had an opening round of 86, giving him a 158, which was good enough for eighth place. Zach Toney and Jon-Michael White had identical scores of 81-79 – 160, which tied them for 10th place. Anthony Herrington had an 88-83 – 171 and Sawyer Taylor shot an 86-86 – 172. Playing as an individual, Cory Brown posted an 88-89 – 177.

Northwest’s Chad Cupples was tournament medalist with a 72-76 – 148, which was three shots better than MGCCC’s Hayes Weathersby, who posted a 78-73 – 151. Co-Lin’s Alex Clark was third with a 75-77 – 152.

The next MACJC event will be the East Mississippi Community College Tournament on April 7-8 at the Mississippi State University Golf Course in Starkville.
