Bobcat pitching shuts down Southwest Miss.

SUMMIT – The Jones County Junior College Bobcats ran their winning streak to eight games with a pair of victories here Wednesday vs. Southwest Mississippi.

In the opener, Cody Brewer allowed one run over 6 1/3 innings and the Bobcats defeated the Bears, 4-1. In game two, Jon Mark Herrington, Cole Barlow and Jeremy Kidd combined on a two-hit shutout and Benji Sullivan had four hits as the Bobcats won, 7-0.

JCJC is now 14-6 overall, 2-0 in the MACJC South Division. They will host East Central Community College in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. Both games will webcast on www.jcjc.tv.

Southwest falls to 9-9 overall, 0-2 in the league. The Bears travel to Chipola Junior College (Fla.) on Saturday.

Bobcats 4, Bears 1

Brewer improved to 3-1, as he gave up a run, four hits, walked one and struck out six. Kidd got the final two outs for a save.

JCJC led 2-1 after one, 3-1 after three and scored its final run in the seventh.

Tyler Graves doubled, singled and an RBI for JCJC, while Josh Pankratz doubled and had two RBIs. Sullivan, Codey Minter, Alex Shermer and Collin Dexter each had a single.

Trace Robinson started and took the loss. He went 4 1/3 innings, allowed three runs, six hits, walked two and struck out four. J.D. Stockstill pitched two innings, allowed one run, one hit and struck out one. Jared Simon pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout.

Brandon Austin doubled for the Bears, while Logan Ferrell, Kendrick Hodges and Patric Devlin added singles.

Bobcats 7, Bears 0

Herrington went the first three innings. Barlow pitched the next three innings and was credited with the win, while Kidd pitched the seventh.

Sullivan had three singles and a double to spark the Bobcat offense. Pankratz and Jordan Stark had doubles, while Shermer had two singles. Trent Giambrone, Minter and Graves added singles. Pankratz and Shermer each had two RBIs.

Austin and Collin Carroll each singled for the Bears.

Jesse Travis started and took the loss. Colton Lee, Jackson Crain, Austin White and Kade Scivicque also pitched for the Bears.

The Bobcats led 1-0 after two innings, 2-0 after three, 4-0 after five and added three runs in the seventh.
