Panthers Score First Nine Goals in 10-3 Win
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A huge night from Mike Hartnett (Homer H.S./Homer) and the entire defense helped lead the Tompkins Cortland Community College lacrosse team to a 10-3 win over Cayuga Community College Wednesday. The first win of the season evens the Panthers’ record at 1-1 on the year. Cayuga is also 1-1.
Hartnett was a one-man wrecking crew early on, scoring the game’s first four goals, all in the first quarter. Lon Palmer (Oneida H.S./Oneida) made it 5-0 in the second quarter, followed by another score by Hartnett and a goal by Austin Recor (Homer H.S./Homer) to make it 7-0 at the half.
TC3 kept the roll going on both ends of the field after the half. Chad Timmons (Cortland H.S./Cortland) and Recor each scored in the third, while the defense anchored by goalie Zach Brown (Corning East H.S./Corning) continued to shut out the Spartans, making it 9-0 after three quarters. Cayuga finally got on the board in the fourth before Hartnett netted his sixth goal. The end result was never in question the rest of the way, with the home team scoring a pair of goals in the final minute to make the final 10-3.
Brown finished with nine saves and his first collegiate win. Hartnett finished with six points for the second straight game.
TC3 returns home Saturday to host Broome Community College at noon.
