No. 7 Lady Bobcats improve to 11-1 with sweep of Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La.  – The 7th-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats swept Baton Rouge Community College (La.) here Monday afternoon.

JCJC won 7-1 in the opener and 13-2 in five innings in the nightcap.

JCJC is now 11-1 on the season and travels to Brewton, Ala., to face Jefferson Davis Community College (Ala.) at 1/3 p.m. on Wednesday. JCJC hosts Meridian Community College at 3/5 p.m. on Friday in the annual “Pink Out The Park Day” for breast cancer awareness.

Lady Bobcats 7, Lady Bears 1

Karley Crosby belted a pair of home runs and a single to spark JCJC on offense. Samantha Buller had a shutout until the bottom of the seventh for JCJC. She tossed a three-hitter and had four strikeouts.

Alex Barrett had three singles, while Makenzie Hawkins singled twice and Brooke David had one single.

JCJC led 3-0 after one inning, 4-0 after three and 5-0 after six innings.

Lady Bobcats 13, Lady Bears 1

Crosby belted a grand slam home run in a nine-run, fifth inning to spark the Lady Bobcats. She now has eight roundtrippers on the season.

Hawkins homered and had two singles, while Bethany Volking doubled and singled twice. David added a single.

The game was tied 1-1 after one, JCJC led 4-1 after three and 4-2 after four.

Michele Hester posted the victory. She allowed just three hits and struck out six.
