Goss' walk-off single helps ICC earn a split with Jones on Friday
March 4, 2013
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh, sophomore shortstop and University of Kentucky signee Tyler Tipton (Shelbyville, KY) kept the Indians’ rally alive with a two-out double to right and later scored on an fielding error when Drew Wheeler (Mooreville) reached on a single to open the door for some late-game heroics from William Goss (Tupelo).
Behind in the count and Wheeler in scoring position after stealing second, Goss blistered a line drive down the line past a diving first baseman allowing Wheeler to easily score and the Indians’ to dog pile Goss to celebrate the victory.
“That’s the team we’ve been looking for all season long,” said ICC head baseball coach Rick Collier. “Hopefully this will be the spark we need for the guys to get things rolling.”
The Indians dropped the first game of the doubleheader 15-4 as they move to 6-8, 0-0 MACJC North with the Game 2 victory and will open division play on Tuesday, March 12 at Roy Cresap Field against East Mississippi Community College.
