Henderson's walk-off single lifts ICC past No. 7 Jones 7-6 in 8 innings
 March 4, 2013

The Lady Indians opened the bottom of the eight down 6-5 with international tiebreak runner in sophomore catcher Anna Holley (Columbus) on second when ICC caught Jones by surprise with a sacrifice bunt from freshman slugger Kory Watterson (Nesbit) to advance the tying run to third.
Holley scored when sophomore left fielder Jessi Patterson (Nettleton) smashed a single up-the-middle off the leg of Jones’ pitcher Michele Hester. Patterson moved into scoring position on a single by freshman second baseman Catherine Carver (Hernando) before scoring on a walk-off single over a leaping first baseman by Emilee Henderson (Burnsville).

“That was a big moment for our program,” said ICC head softball coach Andy Kirk. “Our sophomores stepped up big for us and our freshman were able to come through in some very tough situations. It’s times like these take makes all the hard work the girls put in during the off-season worthwhile when they get to celebrate a victory like this one.”

Patterson had a solo home run in the fourth and Watterson added a three-run bomb in the fifth while sophomore centerfielder Lauren Lewis (Mooreville) went two-for-two with a pair of doubles and a walk and a run scored in the win.

The Lady Indians dropped a 5-1 decision in Game 2 with their lone run coming off a solo home run to center by sophomore shortstop Kami Roberts (Smithville) while sophomore right fielder Ashley Camp (Amory) added a single in the loss.

The Lady Indians are 2-3-1, 0-0 MACJC North and will open division play Saturday against Holmes Community College after playing hosts to Calhoun Community College on Thursday.
