Fans join Lamar State College-Port Arthur men's basketball team for final prayer circle
 March 4, 2013

PORT ARTHUR – At the conclusion of each home game this season, the Lamar State College-Port Arthur men’s basketball team stood together at center-court for a moment of prayer. On Saturday night at the Carl Parker Center, the Seahawks’ sixth man joined in a poignant moment at the Texas college.

The Seahawks celebrated Sophomore Night and a win over Angelina College in the final game of the regular season. In an impromptu moment, fans streamed onto the court after being invited by Head Coach Lance Madison to take part in the Seahawks’ prayer circle.

The Seahawks made sportsmanship and civic interaction an important part of the 2012-13 basketball season. The team hosted free basketball clinics for children at the Southeast Texas YMCA, sponsored the Coaches vs. Cancer: Suits and Sneakers promotion as well as the Milkshakes for Handshakes sportsmanship initiative. As a nod to their dedicated following, the Hawks set aside one game as Fan Appreciation Night as well as taking time for handshakes and photos with fans after home games.

The predominantly-freshman Seahawks team, led by first-year Head Coach Madison, put together a 20-win season this year and now head to the Region XIV Tournament in Tyler where they face Paris Junior College on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
