Hinds CC women's track has two national champions

RAYMOND – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Indoor Nationals were good to the Hinds Community College track and field programs over the weekend, as the women’s team finished fifth in the country in the event held in Lubbock, Texas. The men’s team at Hinds also finished fifth overall.

The Lady Eagles had two student-athletes win national championships, along with numerous high finishes throughout the two-day event.

Kimari Martin (Huntsville, Ala.) claimed a NJCAA title in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.16 seconds, while Kenyattia Hackworth (Mobile, Ala.) won a national championship in the long jump with a leap of 19’ 10 ¼.”

Iris Robinson (Birmingham, Ala.) and Shaterrica Rhodes (Greenville) came in sixth and seventh place, respectively, in the 400-meter dash to fall in line behind the first place finish of Martin. Robinson clocked in at 56.77 seconds, while Rhodes was just behind with a finish of 56.86 seconds.

Pamala Byrd (Jackson) notched a fifth place finish in 200-meter dash with a time of 24.60 seconds.

Kieyiera Shipp (Olive Branch) also had a significant finish in the 55-meter dash, clocking in at 7.05 seconds.
