Hinds CC men's track finishes fifth at NJCAA Indoor Nationals

RAYMOND – The Hinds Community College men’s track and field team finished fifth place in the country in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Indoor Nationals in Lubbock, Texas on Saturday.

The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Colby Huff (Meadville), Michael Newton (Atlanta, Ga.), David Carlton (Biloxi) and Dontavious Wright (Conyers, Ga.) finished second overall with a time of 3:08.86 and for their efforts, each earned NJCAA All-American honors.

Wright was the highest individual finisher among the Eagles, finishing in the third place in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.81.

In the 400-meter dash, the Eagles had fourth and fifth place finishes, respectively, by Huff (47.30) and Newton (47.66).

Anthony Williams (Southaven) ran the 55-meter dash in 6.35 seconds to earn a fourth place finish. He followed that with a fifth place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.33 seconds.

Teammate Jermaine Authorlee (Houston, Texas) came in seventh place in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 21.48 seconds.

Each athlete listed above earned All-American honors by the Unites States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCAA).
