LUBBOCK, Texas – After a tough Friday at the NJCAA National Indoor Track and Field Championships, sophomore All-American Skylar Arneson had a pretty good Saturday.

Arneson earned another All-America honor has he finished third in the men’s 35-pound weight throw on the final day of action at Texas Tech University.

Arneson broke his own school record in the event with a huge throw of 57 feet, 9 1/2 inches. That was 7 1/4 inches better than his previous record set at Johnson County earlier this season.

Arneson came back strong after a disappointing eighth-place finish in the shot put on Friday.

The Blue Dragon track and field team didn’t have many participants going on Saturday.

Freshman Cassie Caswell scored a point in her second event of the national championship. After finishing third on Friday in the shot put, Caswell placed eighth in the women’s 20-pound weight throw at 48-10 3/4.

The only other Blue Dragon to compete on Saturday was Karson Becker in the conclusion of the men’s heptathlon. Becker entered the day in 10th place and reached as high as ninth before settling for 12th place with 4,177 points.

The Blue Dragon men finished the 2013 indoor championships tied for 19th with 11 points. The Lady Dragons finished with 13.5 points, which was a 12th-place showing.

The Blue Dragons open the 2013 outdoor season on March 14 at the ESU Twilight meet.
