Strong Start Not Enough for TC3 Women Against Nation's #8
February 14, 2013DRYDEN, N.Y. – For the first part of Wednesday’s game with #8-ranked Onondaga Community College, the Tompkins Cortland Community College women's basketball team had everything going their way. The Panthers jumped out to an early ten-point lead, held onto the lead when Onondaga responded with their own run, and still led 13 minutes into the game. But the visiting Lazers eventually wore down the Panthers and caught and passed the home team en route to a 77-57 final. The loss leaves the Panthers with a record of 5-6 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference and 7-14 overall. Onondaga improves to 11-0 in the MSAC and 24-2 overall.
A basket by Chelsi Rosa (Bainbridge-Guilford H.S./Bainbridge) got the scoring started and sparked the Panthers to a 12-2 run to open the game. Onondaga came back to within one point at 15-14, but TC3 went on a 7-2 run to lead 22-15 with 9:25 left in the half. At that point the Panthers seemed to run out of gas as Onondaga went on a 20-4 run to close the half with a 35-26 lead. The margin remained in double digits the rest of the way as the visitors pulled away for the win. |
