February 14, 2013
The Vincennes University Women’s Basketball Team hit 11 3-pointers and went 13-for-17 at the free throw line Wednesday night in posting a 76-43 win over Lincoln Trail at the VU P.E. Complex.
Sophomore Zhanna Chukhrii drained four of the treys in the first half as the Trailblazers (10-15) built a lead. Sophomore Monique Jones-Murphy came off the bench to hit two more from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes and freshman Shelby Parmer added a long-range bomb as VU led Lincoln Trail 46-25 at the half.
In the second half, freshman Chelsea Jellison heated up and nailed three treys of her own.
When it was all said and done, Chukhrii finished with 23, Jellison had 15, freshman Ashley Hawkins scored 10 and Jones-Murphy chipped in with nine points.
The outcome was never in doubt for VU. The Trailblazers scored the first nine points of the second half to stretch the lead to 55-25 over Lincoln Trail. With 12:33 to go, the Lady Statesmen had scored only two second half points and VU was up 61-27.
Next, the Trailblazers will head to Wabash Valley College Saturday. The VU ladies will tip off with the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. (Vincennes time) and the game will be followed by the VU men and Wabash Valley at about 8:30 p.m.
